The Place From Whence I Came

It is not the best return to writing, nor is it the best re-introduction to long neglected chronicles of mediocrity, but it will have to do.

The inebriated insistence of my good friends have spurred me on and have brought me back from my prolonged hiatus from writing to this blog. In order to capture some attention and keep some folks interested, I have employed the age old tool of imagery.

It seems like a relatively mundane setting. A red barn, blue sky, some vegetation, and a house off in the distance. To most people, I would imagine that this scene fails to bring forth any sort of emotion. In any case, the resulting feelings are irrelevant to the direction of this entry.

Take a moment to ask yourself how often you manage to think about matters ethereal during your busy life. It may seem like an unimportant query, but it is my belief that it is relevant regarding the direction of modern human thought.

Now that you have thought about such a thing, it is safe to get to the point of my post. By now, I hope to have properly side tracked you, the reader.

Why?

You are asking the wrong question. To get to know me, and a host of others like me, you should be thinking, why not?

If you have manged to follow these unbalanced thoughts, perhaps you are ready to think about the following and comment on it.

It is my belief that the world we live in is in a state of disarray, not because of easily identifiable and rational explanations, but because modern global culture lacks true eccentricity.

Outrageous celebrity shenanigans and subsequent celebrity voyeurism by the media (credit: Michael Gallegos) have stupefied the general populace and gotten it drunk on pointless speculation and gossip. Although this has existed to some degree since the dawn of civilization, this phenomenon has eclipsed one of the driving forces behind progress in our modern culture.

Eccentrics are this force.

You may think that this world has plenty of eccentrics, but are they really eccentrics? Have they reached some of the outrageous goals that the eccentrics of old managed to obtain? All one needs to do is look back at the beginning of the last century and look at the exploits of the eccentrics of that era.

Perhaps I am reaching a bit in my supposed examples, which I have failed to cite in this entry. Call it laziness due to fatigue. All I know is I have this feeling that our world lacks true eccentrics. Not only is it hurting our nation, it is hurting humanity.

Top Gear USA?

And now, some photoshop fun for those who haven't seen this. I hope you enjoy it, because I think I'm suffering from carpal tunnel syndrome after working on this.

This show would rock.

A Few Notes

To the few out there who check in periodically; which of the two following pictures looks better?

I just wanted to repost this old picture. It's dawn in West Texas, and it is one of my favorite pictures I have taken. Sure, I used an ancient camera and print film, but so what? That cool morning was something only I will be able to recall, and that is something I will never forget.

On the way home from Six Flags one time, my buddies and I took 2 cars because we couldn't all fit in one. The other group was mad because we had a 17 inch monitor in our car, with a Gamecube and Smash Bros. for the 2 hour ride home. They decided to drive behind us for about 45 minutes and watch the 4 player melee that ensued through the back window, radioing in with comments and screams of "PWNED" with walky-talkies we used at the park to keep in touch.

We then stopped off to grab some food and decided to conduct an experiment....playing from the trailing car with a Wavebird. It was one of the most amazing experiences of my gaming life. Worked quite well, since we propped the Cube up on the back seat so the signal would be strong enough. So there we are, driving 75 mph while playing Smash with our buddies driving behind us in a completely different vehicle.

I wanna do it again next road trip.

Edit: .....with the Wii.

That's fucking glorious.

Someone also did this with Halo a while back, but their's was more insane, since they actually draped an ethernet cord between the two cars for system link.

    Starting off slow...

Okay, I'll slowly ease back into a nice posting rhythym over time. I'll start off small...

If Knowledge is Power, and Power corrupts, does that make you (assuming you are an educated person), Evil?
